Am I the only one experiencing the following online dating pitfalls: outdated photos, embellished profiles, disingenuous behavior, privacy, limited inventories, and virtual blind dating?
It seems women and men are not always honest when it comes to online dating representation. Here is a quick example:
My friend meets this guy on JDate, however he did not have any pictures on his profile. He tells her that he is a plastic surgeon in L.A. The chemistry on the phone is great, but naturally she requests and insists upon a photo. Without a struggle, he obliges. They sign off and she is excited to show the picture to a girlfriend who coincidentally is from India. She laughs and asks if she knows who the guy in the picture really is? They go on the Internet and find the exact photo he sent. It turns out the guy in the picture is the Brad Pitt equivalent in Bollywood!
She subsequently switched from Jdate to Sparkbliss.
Unfortunately that's one of the perils many people face when conversing with strangers online. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they may be rejected once they show the other party their real picture. What I don't understand, however, is what they plan on telling them once they meet face-to-face. It's best to be honest. My best friend was on the brink of dating a girl he was quite fond of and he asked to see her picture. Whenever he asked to see her or meet with her, she made up all kinds of ridiculous exucses, like she had been diagnosed with cancer, she was in multiple car accidents, etc. She ended up using pictures of a Bollywood actress as well, Aishwarya Rai. He confronted her and she just laughed it off. So yeah, you're not the only one!
